Charming breakfast spot in Gatlinburg TN

Timbers Log Cabin

If you’ve not already been to Gatlinburg Tennessee, but it’s on your bucket list, there’s one thing you need to be mentally prepared for well before your trip. The amount of people that are there, year round. I mean genuinely, year round. There is no off season. When I was a kid I remember going to Gatlinburg for the weekend and there were hardly crowds. You could go to any restaurant without a wait, and usually traffic was a minimum. Now you’d better be prepared to wait around an hour for any “Dinner plans”. This is all to say, please don’t let that stir you away from coming to visit as it really is one of the most magical places, perfect for a mountain getaway. But when you’re researching, most people don’t talk about how truly overwhelmingly popular it really is. That being said finding somewhere to eat that isn’t incredibly crowded or at least an hours wait time is almost impossible.

Hidden Gem: Timbers Log Cabin

Over the weekend we had a cute Valentines Day getaway in Gatlinburg and our goal was for it to be cozy and chill. I’m not one that is much for being around a ton of people so heading in to Gatlinburg was immediately overwhelming. We got up around 8:30AM to go find somewhere to eat breakfast. Pro tip: get up earlier. We really wanted to try Crockett’s Breakfast Camp which is likely one of the most popular breakfast eateries in town. I personally have never been, but any time I have been by, there are lines way out the door and usually around the corner. So as expected, we drove by and the wait was at about an hour. I really didn’t want to wait that long even though it was no one’s fault but my own that we didn’t wake up earlier. That being said I wanted to find somewhere else that I thought would be less crowded but still at least an average breakfast. Which, thankfully, landed me at Timbers Log Cabin.

What to expect: parking & ordering:

When you first arrive at Timbers it’s a little hard to figure out if you’re in the right spot since it looks like a mini strip mall of houses and stores. The restaurant is located right in a curve and there is another restaurant right at the end of the buildings that we thought was it at first. Keep going to the right and you’ll see the little log cabin style building right at the end. Once you pull in there’s a really small parking lot to the left of the building with minimal spaces. It is located very close to the building though so you don’t have to worry about a far walk. The exterior of the building is extremely charming and immediately felt inviting. There’s outside seating that provides you the option of enjoying your breakfast under a shaded umbrella in a secluded part of town. You do also have the option of eating inside, but be weary there is very limited seating maybe 15 chairs altogether (many 2 seated tables and 1 larger table). That being said, as you’re walking in they have a QR code you can scan to pull up the mobile menu and take your time choosing. As you walk inside you immediately head to the counter, where there are more menus hanging up in case you need a last glance. You order at the counter where the staff happily greats you, and then you choose your seating.

Inside Ambiance and Food Review:

Walking in to the restaurant was so inviting you immediately feel cozy. The store is designed somewhere between rustic and hippie. Decorations overflow the walls with tons of drawings from kids, to a fireplace, to plants, and odd & ends nick knacks. It’s extremely intimate but the perfect setting for someone who isn’t interested in being in an over crowded setting. The staff are all incredibly kind and eager to help you with anything you need. They constantly came around to ask if we needed anything.

I ordered the Timbers Log Toast Burger. It’s a delicious house made beef patty served between 2 pieces of French toast, with a fried egg, bacon and cheese of your choosing in the middle. It’s served with a side of syrup, and your choice of 1 side. I chose the “home fries” also just known as fried potatoes. The sandwich was absolutely incredible the taste was everything you wanted for a breakfast. I personally don’t like too much sweet early of a morning, and the combination of the burger with the French toast was enough to offset anything too sweet. It was hands down a 10/10 and I would recommend highly for anyone willing to try something new. The prices were a little high from what we were expecting but it was worth the price for the relaxing environment and delicious food.

Over all I would definitely come back to Timbers. Even though the prices were a little high it was well worth it for all of the other great amenities that you get with your experience. You get your worth in food and you absolutely won’t leave hungry or dissatisfied. You don’t find many places like this now that Gatlinburg is insanely popular and it’s very hard to catch anywhere with little to no wait time. The food was phenomenal and the vibe was unmatched to anywhere else I have experienced locally. Be sure to ask for the locals discount if you are from nearby and enjoy!
